When you haven't changed any storage settings, then most data is stored in the database. There the best way to save data is to optimize the tables. @mjdxp @furicle In Munich the administration tried to swap out all at once a few years ago. totally crashed and backrolled cause people were confused by "this new complicated software" (next to m$ lobying)
in Schleswig Holstein the admin. recently started to swap out the programs, first as addition to the proprietary ones they were using for people to try, then mandatory. plan is to swap out the os last when everyone got used to the programms.

There's also the ability to read-in bar codes from your camera. (To be honest, I haven't tried this yet).

Unfortunately, despite our efforts to find a new home for EU Voice and EU Video in other EUIs, we have been unable to secure new ownership to maintain the servers and sustain operations at the high standards that EUIs and our users deserve”. The EDPS will facilitate the required migration of EUIs who wish to keep their accounts active in the Fediverse, by providing the necessary support to ensure a smooth transition to other platforms. To say that the platform is a success is an understatement. One of the more popular accounts, @EU_Commission@social.network.europa.eu, has almost 100,000 followers, with other accounts on EU Voice boasting thousands of followers.
If the European Union 🇪🇺 shuts down EU Voice, they will be relying upon Threads to carry their voice into the Fediverse, as @EuropeanCommission@threads.net (note: not yet federated as of this post) currently has 135,000 followers (as of this post).
Unlike the United States 🇺🇸, Meta has a complicated relationship with the European Union 🇪🇺. If the EU 🇪🇺 terminates their Mastodon & Peertube accounts, they will cede control of their Fediverse presence to @zuck@threads.net, who can use the threat of Threads exiting the European Union 🇪🇺 as leverage during negotiations.
Ask & Ye Shall Receive
With Europe's economy barely avoiding a recession & the war in Ukraine 🇺🇦 becoming a costly affair, the EU is trying to find ways of cutting governmental costs to remain within their budget during these troubling times.
Running & maintaining a server is expensive, especially if it is popular amongst the masses. However, instead of dismantling their independent voice in the Fediverse, the government could ask their community on & offline for assistance keeping their presence alive.
The EU Voice could ask their 200,000 plus followers on Mastodon & Threads to donate one euro 💶 (yes, just €1) monthly to help keep their servers alive. I am an American 🇺🇸, & I would contribute €10 per month to help keep their instance alive, as a government needs to have an independent voice online in the Fediverse.
Also, the EU should not be too proud to ask their local business community for assistance. As a bonus, the EU could also encourage the business community to establish their presence on the Fediverse by using several homegrown options like:
Many European businesses could probably write off any funds donated as on their taxes (at least I hope they can as I am more familiar with the American 🇺🇸 tax system & not the European Union's 🇪🇺), & between willing users & local companies, the EU Voice could find the strength to continue singing in the Fediverse.
With less than a month until the EU Voice shuts down, it will be up to ActivityPub European activists to voice their concerns to their government & advocate keeping these instances alive.
After all, I am just an American 🇺🇸 who is attempting to convince more government entities to embrace the Fediverse in the United States 🇺🇸 (especially now that a couple of ActivityPub platforms are secure enough for governmental use).
If the EU decides to abandon their respective Mastodon & Peertube accounts & rely on the mercy of @mosseri@threads.net (note: he is a great guy, but he spends too much time on Instagram 😉), then of course I will follow their account on Threads.
However, before the EU again outsources its social presence to another American company, it may want to ask its fellow European netizens for assistance in maintaining its social presence in Europe.

Wenn ich das richtig verstanden habe, sind jetzt aber zumindest Überweisungen im Inland erlaubt, oder? Weil es nicht anders geht, weil diverse Zahlungen (Handyvertrag etc.) eben nur per Überweisung möglich sind. What helps me when I learn a new language is reading translations of comics I know well (or books, but mostly comics because I tend to know the original text better. Video games work well too, when changing the language is an option).
I really enjoy it myself (German native speaker). It's a comedy podcast and the topics are very widely spread and not too specific. So maybe it's helpful for listening to everyday language 🙂

As a German who learned english listening to Sherlock Holmes books my stance is always to just look for media you like once you mastered the basics. And, as many others have pointed out, try to get into conversations. Whether you use Duolingo or not, the Duolingo discord is a great place to try to write without fear because your skills are not yet great and you can ask questions if sentences or constructions seem weird to you. I use it for learning and hang around in German to help.

I've no idea what's on them, we found them when we were clearing out my dad's flat a few months back and I own nothing these days that could read them. They look like they're in good nick and will have been stored in a dark, dry environment, but obviously there are no guarantees that they're readable at all.

You also only have indirect control over plastic straw production, but my point wasnt the "control over" part but the "let people have their small victories" part. If you actively harass people for doing good things, they will stop doing good things.
in this case quite a number of people would want plastic straws back because the paper straws has been bringing a significantly worse experience. So yeah they do want this good thing to stop.
You do have direct control over fisheries as much as you do over straws. But indeed, don't invalidate. Say "if you like X, you might also want to do Y which has an even greater impact"
The straws are a win, a very very small win that we just stopped at. It's like we just said "mission accomplished" while tossing an empty plastic cup into the bin.
I can control the use and manufacture of straws as much as I can the use of plastic nets in fishing. I can reject straws and not eat fish, thus marginally reducing demand for both.
